Sorry it has been so long since the last post. Nothing too exciting has happened since trials but here is an update about the training we have been doing in the past few days.
Thursday: Because Elite Nationals were still going on at the Mercer boathouse (where we usually practice) we had to move to the Princeton boathouse for the day. We get to sleep in (practice wasn’t until 10!) because we had to wait for the Senior Team to be done with practice. We went out for about a 12k row and did 4x2k of step pieces. Then we also did a short 4k E erg. It was SOO hot that day so it was nice that we got to be inside with fans for part of the workout. Tom Terhaar—the Senior Team coach—was out on the water for part of our practice too. Pretty exciting for us lowly U23ers.
We had the rest of Thursday off. More time for napping and netflixing.
Friday: For our first practice we went to the store front that has ergs and weights (where the Senior Team practices and tests). We did 3x5k on the ergs. The first and last pieces were just straight E and the middle piece was 4mins on 1min off and the 4mins were just at our E pace. We were given paces to hold again. Mine, and most people’s pace, was 2:06. Holding a lower E pace at the same heart rate is getting easier and easier. I am excited to be building my base fitness now, and keeping it for the rest of the summer, so that I go into the fall with the best fitness possible.
After the erg we did a short lift. For our lifts we do a lot of similar things to what we do at school. We do kettle bell squats, back extensions, knee lifts, squats with a bar, RDLs, bench presses, step ups, and a few others.
Friday afternoon we were back at Mercer because all the racing was over. We did 16k on the water with some 20 stroke pieces built in. The boat is feeling better and better everyday.
Saturday: We did 16k on the water again with 4x2k of step pieces again. Then we did 4k on the erg and our core routine. Then we had the rest of the day off! I went with some of the other girls to a “Freedom Fesitval”. It was very fun! There were lots of vendors, a concert, and a hotdog eating contest to watch.
Sunday: This was the first full day that we have had off. So….I slept in until 10:45 and then went on a run around Princeton. Then I just rested, talked to some friends, and wrote this post for the rest of the day. Very nice and relaxing.
More to come!
